Five steps to saving lives
Many people with rare diseases depend on plasma-derived drugs to lead a ‘normal’ life. So when you donate plasma, you can become a life saver – in just five easy steps! How exactly the donation process works and what you must pay attention to is explained here.
Step 1 – Registration
As a new donor you can either come by during our opening hours for new donors, which you can find for each of our BioLife Plasma Centers on our website. You can also make an appointment by phone, email or online to make an appointment in advance, it is a little faster. When you register, you will need to bring your official photo ID and proof of registration.
Meanwhile you can make an appointment
with us in seven cities in Austria.
Step 2 – Your health counts
Next, you fill out the “health questionnaire”. You will receive this from us at the reception when registering. It contains some questions about your health and your medical history,so that we can be sure that you are a suitable donor. Once you have completed the questionnaire, you will then be taken to a medical examination.
Your health is our top priority.
Step 3 – The health check
Plasma donation informs and reassures you about your health condition. Before your first donation you will be thoroughly examined by one of our doctors. Therefore, you get a free analysis of your health condition. Should your results deviate from the standard values, you will of course be informed immediately.
Our medically trained staff will look after
you during your entire stay at the plasma center.
Step 4 – The plasma donation
The process by which the plasma is obtained is called plasmapheresis. In this process, whole blood is taken from you and the plasma is separated from the blood cells. The plasma is collected in a special bag. The remaining blood components flow back into yourbody. The plasma donation takes about 50 minutes. During this time, you can relax and take your personal time out.
The average plasma donation takes 45 to 50 minutes.
Step 5 – Be a lifesaver
Only from your second donation on, we can use your plasma to make vital medicines. Then you are a lifesaver! After your plasma donation is completed, you will receive 25 Euro reimbursement from us. Your blood plasma will regenerate completely within a few days after your donation.
After your donation you will receive your reimbursement.
